Rock Island Armory

While in Davenport my friend Steve and I took an hour break from motorcycles and went and checked out the Rock Island National Armory Museum. I don't collect guns or anything but I was glad I went .. it was interesting to see the things collected from various wars .. I can read about something, but when I see something from that time in person is when it really comes into perspective and becomes real. Also If you've ever made a part by hand you can appreciate the craftsmanship and detail regardless of what they were ultimately used for. The craftsmanship on some of the revolutionary and civil war rifles reminded me a lot of Shinya Kimura's beautiful hand made parts.

I grew up in the Quad Cities and was actually back for the Davenport swap meet and races. Did they still have the creepy stuffed horse at the museum? How about the tanks outside? Cool place.

I didn't see the stuffed horse or the tanks. They had these old canons out front that were from the 1700's. Get anything good at the swap meet?
