Had to go downtown last night.. usually I wont even bother if I can't ride since I hate dealing with parking. Got lucky, it wasn't raining so I took out the old scrambler. I haven't been riding it all that much and lately have been half assedly trying to sell it. I forgot how much fun it was to ride. A 400x19 front feels like a motocross tire in comparison to a 300x21 avon . There's a short and moderately steep hill near my house with a lip at the top. It's good for a little air every time on this bike if you just keep the throttle on up it. I can't say the same for my boat anchor Panhead as I've yet to get even the front end off the ground on the same hill.

the little things..

I shot this Hawgholic Knuckle for Dice the day after it won the Mooneyes show last year but it showed up in so many magazines at the same time that it had a bit of magazine overexposure and Dice never ran the photos. I love this bike and all the little details that Gak put into it. You really have to see his bikes up close to fully appreciate them.

In Davenport Gak told me about one of the bikes he's bringing to Mooneyes this year.. I can't wait to see it. I think people will be freaking out on it just like they were this bike last year.

easy riders

A scan of a contact sheet. A Photo I took in Bali 92.

If you are the amber mare
I am the road of blood
If you are the first snow
I am he who lights the hearth of dawn
If you are the tower of night
I am the spike burning in your mind
If you are the morning tide
I am the first bird's cry
If you are the basket of oranges
I am the knife of the sun
If you are the stone altar
I am the sacrilegious hand
If you are the sleeping land
I am the green cane
If you are the wind's leap
I am the buried fire
If you are the water's mouth
I am the mouth of moss
If you are the forest of the clouds
I am the axe that parts it
If you are the profaned city
I am the rain of consecration
If you are the yellow mountain
I am the red arms of lichen
If you are the rising sun
I am the road of blood

No Parking

I shot these photos last year of this Hawgholic built Triumph and the then owner Hajime. It was pouring rain that day and by the time we drove across the city in Hajime's sweet El Camino to where the bike was it was dark. The only hope for some photos was this parking garage nearby with some dim fluorescent lighting. We could only find this one little corner with any room to shoot the bike. Just as I started to shoot an attendant came along and he wasn't too pleased with us taking photos there .. Hajime told him something about foreigners and a magazine or something but the guy wasn't having it and he said we had to be gone by the time he got back. How long that would be we didn't know. So I frantically tried to shoot as fast as I could but the lack of light wasn't helping things. I didn't have a tripod or any lighting equipment so it was hard to get anything that wasn't blurry. I'd take 3 or 4 shots and 1 would be moderately sharp. In the end I did get some usable shots.. we got out of there before the attendant came back and now you can see the photos in the New Issue of DiCE. The characters on the ground mean No Parking from what I remember.
